Gwen Mogenson, Board of Finance
A graduate of Marquette University with a B.S. in accounting and New York University with an MBA in finance, Gwen began her professional career as a CPA with Arthur Young (formerly Ernst & Young) in the audit practice. Gwen gained 15 years of advanced financial analysis and communication experience working for Freddie Mac, a Fortune 50 Corporation based in Washington, DC, where she was the Director of financial forecasting and shareholder relations.
Since moving to town in 1997, Gwen has put her strong financial background to work in our community as a dedicated volunteer. She has served as the treasurer of the Darien League of Women Voters, the VP of fundraising for the Darien Technology Foundation and in various positions on the Royle PTO.
For the past four years, Gwen has served as the Darien High School budget representative, where she counts as key achievements securing the $1 million in technology funds for the new High School and gaining the approval of 6.7 new teachers for the 2007/2008 school year. In recognition of her effectiveness as a school budget advocate, Gwen was named Darien High School’s “Volunteer of the Year 2007”. That same year, Gwen was elected to her first term on the Board of Finance.
Gwen is known as a person who does her homework and is strongly committed to a moderate, open minded and analytical approach to budget issues, grounded in fact based decision making. As a member of the Board of Finance, she will work to improve communication with Darien residents, particularly in providing greater rationalization for budget decisions.
Currently, Gwen is the part-time bookkeeper for both the Community Fund of Darien and the Darien Land Trust.
Gwen lives in Darien with her husband, Harvey and two sons, Michael, a recent Darien High School graduate who is heading off to Tufts and Andrew a 7th grader at Middlesex Middle School.
