Winter Party Kicks Off 2008!

At the Darien DTC's 2008 Winter Party, local Democrats gathered to celebrate the many big accomplishments of the past year and to look forward to what's sure to be an exciting year ahead. First Selectman Evonne Klein took the time to welcome new members to the DTC and to thank town residents for their support. She also introduced some special guests.

State senator Bob Duff (right), who represents parts of Darien and Norwalk, pointed out how effective Darien's Democrats have been in working together to address key issues. Last year, Duff worked closely with Evonne Klein and Selectman Callie Sullivan, as well as others in the community, to ban truck traffic on parts of route 136. Senator Duff looks forward to continue working with Darien residents in the year ahead.

Also attending the event was Congressional candidate Jim Himes (left). An executive at Enterprise Community Partners and an expert on finance, Himes has been strongly endorsed by Connecticut's other Congressional Democrats in his battle against Republican Chris Shays.

Himes praised Evonne Klein and the Darien community for demonstrating that competence in government truly matters to voters. Himes pointed out that the Darien Democrats' historic victory in the 2007 election was all about rewarding hard work and good judgment and doing what's best for the community.

Himes said we need that same kind of competence from our leaders in Washington. In a heartfelt speech, Himes explained that the poor decisions made by the Bush administration, and supported by Chris Shays, have been costly to our economic strength, our military capabilities, and our world stature, and Himes said he would work to help move the country in a new direction.

Senator Duff and Jim Himes will be making news throughout the year. To stay informed on the work Bob Duff is doing in Hartford, you can visit his website by clicking here. To support Jim Himes and help with his upcoming campaign, visit his website by clicking here.

Evonne Klein also took the time to thank Gary and Martha Banks for being such graceful hosts to this important event. We thank them too.

John Davis Re-Elected Chairman of DTC

Key Officials Chosen for 2008-10 Term

The Darien Democratic Town Committee re-elected John Davis to a third term as chairman for the 2008-10 term. Davis was first elected chairman in 2004.

Rounding out the newly elected executive team are, pictured from left, Tony Imbimbo, vice chairman; Davis; Marilu Cleary, treasurer; and Carolyn Bayne, secretary.

Mimi Griffith was re-elected as chair of the nominating committee. Others elected to the nominating committee included Phil Schneidermeyer, Laura Cavers, Mark Thorne, Gary Greene, Bob Mazzone (at large), Susan Vogel (at large), and Warren Pullen (at large).

“We have a great group of individuals assembled for the 2008-10 Democratic Town Committee,” Davis said. “Many are active in other volunteer positions in town and are well-known in the community.” “Our goal is to continue to find the best candidates for boards and commissions in Darien,” added Davis. “We seek out people who will work hard to ensure that Darien continues to be a great place to live and raise a family.”

The Darien Democratic Party has been successful in recent years in attracting qualified and dedicated volunteers willing to serve in town government. In November, Democratic First Selectman Evonne Klein won re-election to a third term, and David Bayne and Callie Sullivan won seats on the Board of Selectman, marking the first time in the town’s 188-year history that Democrats have won a majority of selectmen seats.

Evonne Klein & Darien Democrats Make History!

First Selectman Evonne Klein (left) joins David Bayne and Callie Sullivan in thanking their supporters after an historic victory in 2007. For the first time ever in Darien, Democratic candidates won a majority on the Board of Selectman. Evonne won 65 percent of the vote, and Callie Sullivan and David Bayne won by significant margins. It was a great day, and it would not have been possible without tremendous support from the entire community.

To everyone who helped make this historic victory possible ... THANK YOU!

What an amazing election! You can read all about it in the Darien Times! ... And check out these snapshots from the campaign.
